Beyond the Labels

OPENING PRAYER:

Compassionate God, help us to see beyond the labels and judgments, to recognize the image of Christ in every person we meet. May we be instruments of Your peace and love.

READ: Galatians 3:28 (NIV)

"There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

Galatians 3:28 (NIV)

REFLECT:

Labels can be barriers that prevent us from truly knowing and loving others. Pastor Carter’s message highlighted how labeling is a tool of the enemy, used to create division and prevent the spread of the Gospel. Jesus, however, saw beyond labels, recognizing the inherent worth and dignity of every person He encountered.

Todd told the story of Nate, a man living under the 21st bridge, and it is a powerful reminder of the impact of seeing beyond labels. When Bill Bequett met Nate, he didn’t see an addict; he saw a person with a story and potential. By choosing to engage with Nate as a person, Bill opened the door for transformation and healing, not just for Nate, but for his entire family.

In Christ, we are called to break down the walls of division and see each person as a beloved child of God. When we look beyond labels, we create space for God’s love to work in powerful ways, bringing healing and reconciliation to our broken world.

APPLY:

Identify a label you have placed on someone and make a conscious effort to see them as a person with a story. Engage with them in a way that reflects the love and acceptance of Christ.

I WILL STATEMENT:

I will discover someone's story this week by noticing, listening, or asking them a question. Can you identify a label you have placed on someone? Take time to make a conscious effort to see them as a person with a story. Engage with them in a way that reflects the love and acceptance of Christ.

CLOSING PRAYER:

Lord, thank You for breaking down the barriers that divide us. Help us to see others through Your eyes, to love without judgment, and to be agents of Your healing and reconciliation. Amen.
